Pure sophistication

Everything in it points to the sophistication. And everything in the film refers to the sophistication. Tom Ford, fashion designer, famous for saving the Gucci brand from bankruptcy and take it to the top, is the sophistication in person, that we now insist on calling cool. For better and for worse. A single man, his first foray into cinema, is the sophistication made film. How excessive? Maybe, because there can blur everything else, because at some time walking through the empty bombast wire. And yet, hers is an amazing job for a rookie.
The beautiful photography rough in parts in color, brilliant in black and white, created by the young Barcelona Eduard Grau, the cutting assembly, near the cut-up technique practiced in the seventies by the great Nicolas Roeg, who drew the conventional usual story line, the use of music, much of the score created by Polish Abel Korzeniowski as the introduction of such exquisite items as Stormy Weather, Etta James, or Green Onions, Booker T. & The MG's, the architecture, which apparently Ford is a famous fan, exemplified in that glass house you live the protagonist, and, of course, fashion, another gem of the film. A Single Man is pure sophistication in all areas, even at the risk of being tiresome in some of its sequences, like the smell of butter dog shown in slow motion with unnecessary relish.
And the story? Well, thanks, but less. Based on a novel by Christopher Iserwood , the film tells the physical and mental collapse of a gay college professor who loses in an accident to be his partner for years. Film about the individual's fear of loneliness, and fear of society to minorities, especially as it says in one of his lectures the protagonist, "those that are invisible, because so are more dangerous." A Single Man could also be defined as a story of love, understood in two ways: the love of dear family and love for oneself.
The character played by Colin Firth in pain sorry, Oscar nominee for best actor, is a man who is idolized in every aspect. So much so that it will cost to reach a suicide horrors intended as perfect as has been his life. Otherwise can not be understood the unlikely outcome (we take care not to disclose), but as pure metaphor for the power of nature over the egotism of the living dead. JAVIER OCAÑA in The Country
