Gallego said his third IM norm in the Continental Senior, in Toluca, Mexico, to end the contest with 3 draws in the last 3 rounds facing 3 major masters: GM Juan Carlos González (2545, Mexico), GM Alex Yermolinsky ( 2530, USA) and GM Ruben Felger (2577, Argentina). Gallego had won the other rules (3 required standards for the title) in Cuba: Guillermo Garcia in the In Memoriam (2008) and Capablanca In Memoriam (2009). Gallego

Continental began 2011 by defeating Mexican Mario Reyes (2034). In rounds 2 and 3 pitted two players of that nationality, in the second tied with Ruben Contreras (2157) and the third beat Max Moreyra (2188). In the fourth round he suffered the only defeat in the competition, in a tight game with 7 hours before the American GM Alex Lenderman (2548). Recovered from the setback with two straight wins, before the Bolivian Boris Ferrufino (2202) and American MF Fabio La Rota (2255). TERCER LUGAR EN OPEN DE SANTS, 2008:

También en 2008, en una destacada actuación, Gallego empató en el tercer lugar del torneo activo del Open de Sants, España, al finalizar con 7 puntos de 9 posibles y sólo siendo superado por GM Andrey Sumets (Ucrania, 2534 de elo) y GM Namig Guliyev (Azerbaiyán, 2510), quienes hicieron 7,5 puntos, medio más que el colombiano. Second IM norm in Cuba

The chess Antioquia Andrés Gallego won his second International Master norm.
